Because each competing team is a different size, scoring for this challenge is handicapped. This means a smaller team could win first-place if they contribute more distance traveled per member than a larger team, even if the larger team circumnavigates the world more times.

Regardless of the activity, if you track the distance, it counts. Most of us will stick to swimming, biking and/or running. But don’t forget to track other activities like hiking, skating, or SUPing. Anything human-powered counts. If you don’t have a GPS watch, use an app on your phone to track your distance.

The average American takes around 3000 steps per day. That’s roughly 1.5 miles in distance! Use a smartwatch or pedometer app to track your daily steps and add those to your total. If your sport doesn’t require covering large distances, tracking your steps will help you add to the team’s total mileage.

Since this challenge lasts all month, sharing your progress will encourage your teammates to participate. Post in your team’s Facebook group and tell everyone how you are getting in your mileage.
